Baby Birth
Announcements
Having a new baby is a busy
and exciting time for the parents, grandparents, relatives and friends. One of
the exciting tasks is announcing your new addition to your family and friends.
It is the way for the
parents to share their happiness and joy!
The baby announcements are
usually cards that are sent out to family and friends after the baby is born.
It is a very busy time once
the baby arrives, so the more planning you do before then, the smoother it will
be – and involves less stress!
Preparing an announcement
template before your baby arrives will allow you to get it sent out very quickly
after your baby is born. It pays to put some thought into the announcement as it
reflects the personality of the parents.
Your first decision will be
around the style of announcement. The styles can be traditional, contemporary or
classic. You can even customize your announcement with blank cards containing
only borders, and then including photos of booties, bonnets, bows lace, etc
around the edges, and a photo of the baby in the middle, along with some hand
written comments.
One of the easiest to
choose is a style that fits well with your nursery. As you will have probably
spent a lot of time preparing a nursery for your baby, why not include a similar
theme for your baby birth announcement?
Tradition still tends to
include blue color for boys and pink for girls, although a generic announcement
can also be sent. A lot of parents know the gender of their baby before it is
born, which makes planning a lot easier.
Another popular choice is
to base the announcement around a photo or photos. This can be great with a
photo of the baby and its parents, however it can be a challenge to take and
then agree on a great photo, and to then get it reproduced and placed in the
announcements quickly!
If it is not possible to
send a photo out straight away, send the announcement, and then send the photo
out later. Family and friends will be keenly awaiting the details, so don’t keep
them waiting too long!
Although this is one of
many tasks at a very busy time, it is one of the most pleasurable announcing the
details of your new baby to the world – the key is preparation before the birth.
Taking care of these details will make life so much easier.
What should be included?
There will always be some
debate on exactly what should be included because of variations due to different
cultures and religions, but most people agree the standard should include:
-
Parents names
-
Baby’s name
-
List of siblings [if the family is
welcoming another child]
-
Date of birth
-
Time of birth
-
Birth weight
-
Birth height
Remember
The birth announcements are
not a request for gifts as these should have been dealt with the baby shower
before the baby’s birth.
Some people will send a
gift regardless however, so you should be prepared by having some ‘thank you’
notes ready. It will look nicer if they are co-coordinated with the theme of the
baby announcements.
